Water Connects Us All
A Community Guidebook for Restoring Mountain Watersheds
Water Connects Us All grew from the recognition that healthy, resilient communities begin with healthy, resilient watersheds—and that water and climate are deeply connected. In the wake of Hurricane Helene, the importance of restoring healthy water cycles and building greater resilience across our mountain landscapes has never been clearer.
This community guidebook explores how we can restore our mountain watersheds together—from actions at individual homes and properties to neighborhood and community projects, landscape-scale restoration, and watershed-wide collaboration. It brings together practical solutions, local knowledge, science, and real-world examples that help slow, spread, soak, store, and safely convey water while restoring healthy water cycles. Meaningful restoration happens at many scales and involves all of us—residents, landowners, local governments, nonprofits, businesses, educators, designers, contractors, and watershed and climate advocates.
Water moves through a cycle. Our actions shape that cycle. And each of us can have a role in restoring healthy watersheds, strengthening climate resilience, and creating a healthier future for our communities.
